Pastor Philip Schupmann

About our Pastor:

Pastor Philip Schupmann was born in Detroit Lakes, MN and was raised in Junction City, Kansas. He studied at Northwestern College preparatory school where he graduated in 1969. Northwestern emphasized the English, German and Latin languages as well as religion, math, science, music and history.

Four years of Latin and two years of German helped prepare Pastor Schupmann for his study of the languages of the Bible, Hebrew and Greek. After another two years of Latin and two more years of German, four more years of Greek and two years of Hebrew were taken to help prepare for seminary training. After graduating from college in 1973, Pastor Schupmann enrolled at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin. In 1973 Pastor Schupmann was also married to Sara, and the Lord has blessed their relationship with six children.

Upon graduation from the Seminary Pastor Schupmann was assigned to St. Mark Ev. Lutheran Church in Bloomington/Normal, IL. He served that congregation for 7 years. In addition he served campus ministries at the University of Illinois in Urbana, as well as, Illinois State University in Normal and Illinois Wesleyan College in Bloomington.

While in the Western Wisconsin District, Pastor Schupmann served on the District’s evangelism board and served as a circuit pastor.

In the summer of 1985 Pastor Schupmann accepted a Call to serve Resurrection Ev. Lutheran Church in Aurora, IL where he continues to serve to the present.

Since being a member of the Southeastern Wisconsin District of the Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod, Pastor Schupmann has served as a circuit pastor for the past 18 years. He was the past chairman of the Lutheran Heritage Hour, a radio broadcast covering the Chicago land area. He is currently the Chairman of the synod’s international relief and humanitarian aid committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Wisconsin Lutheran Child and Family Services. He is a member of their family services committee. He has also served on the nominating board of this district and the synod. In the 1990’s Pastor Schupmann was part of a board appointed to study the program and administration of the entire Wisconsin Synod. This committee was know as the committee on program review and led to the restructuring of the synod.

At Resurrection, Pastor Schupmann is responsible for teaching the various Bible classes, Adult Bible Information classes, and children’s confirmation classes. He conducts our weekly worship services and attends various meetings at the church and visits the sick and shut-ins as well as conducts funeral and wedding services.

When asked what he enjoys doing most, he replied, “Preaching and teaching Adult Bible Information Classes.”
